GIZ-SEDIN Programme, Nigeria, value chain development programme officer, key competence is in the concept of onclusive market development, focusing on value chain development as a tool for enterprise development within the MSME private sector sphere (scoping, identification, analysis, upgrading/promotion, facilitating, managing and M&E).

Richard B. Ogundele currently works in the value chain component of the new Sustainable Economic Development in Nigeria (SEDIN) Programme of the GIZ based in Abuja Nigeria, as the Value Chain Development Programme Officer. He held similar position during the recently concluded Employment Oriented Private Sector Development (EoPSD) programme of the then GTZ which ran from 2003 to March 2011. Richard’s key competence is in the concept of Inclusive Market development, focusing on Value Chain Development as a tool for enterprise development within the MSME private sector sphere(scoping, identification, analysis, upgrading/promotion, facilitating, managing and M&E). In doing this, facilitating the process of enabling the private sector to drive the strategies while collaborating with the public sector and other service providers is the major purpose and Richard is knowledgeable, skilled and experienced at delivering this. Richard’s commodity value chain competence includes sesame, shea nut/butter, cashew, Jatropha, Ginger, Cocoa, Rubber and some food crops/vegetables. He is a Value Links Trainer and a practitioner having applied the principles all through the period of the EoPSD project while working on sesame and shea nut/butter mainly and peripherally on cashew to mention a few. He also has a good knowledge of the M4P approach aiming to make the markets work for the excluded poor/gender within the value chains. He is quite competent in Farm Economic Analysis (FEA), Value Chain Finance (VCF), Extension Delivery Services Management & capacity building, Market Oriented Farmer Groups Development (MOFGD) approaches, gender inclusion and analysis along the value chain, organic agriculture standards & certification and MSME enterprise development.

Before joining the GIZ, Richard worked in the Oil & Gas(O&G) sector of Nigeria – Nigerian Agip Oil Co, Ltd(NAOC) and its partner company Allied Energy Resources Nigeria Ltd covering HR, Administration, Community & Government Relations(CGR) which entailed community mobilisation & sensitisation, community agricultural projects development & management, Environmental Resources Management, Oil spill response and clean-ups, Participatory Rural Appraisals and Learning Actions(PRA + PLA), and generally facilitating an enabling environment for the O&G industry to operate within the communities devoid of hitches.

Richard is a trained Environmental Manager with an M.Phil Degree and a bachelor degree in Botany with core skills in Municipal Solid Waste Management (MSWM). He has a total of 16 years working experience (post NYSC) covering all the sectors mentioned above. His regional experience includes Kenya, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, London (UK as a whole), Italy, Germany and few other EU countries. Richard’s working languages are very good English and average French.He is a member of the GIZ sector network Agriculture & Pro-poor Development Agric Finance task group.
